GREYHOUND
WELFARE
OUR PRIORITY IS THE GREYHOUND
At Coventry Stadium, our first priority is the
greyhound itself. The welfare of the greyhound
is paramount, from its pre-race environment
under the care of a professional trainer in the
kennels, through to the kennelling facilities,
racing conditions, veterinary inspections and
care while at the stadium, and last but by no
means least, care of the greyhound when its
racing career comes to an end.
We visit the kennels of all attached trainers to
ensure they meet our high standards - as well as
those of the NGRC.
KENNELLING
AT THE TRACK
Our new kennel block is 'state of the art' with
all the modern facilities. It includes air
conditioning, not just the air flow system.
Security of the kennels is vital and cameras and
stewarding are utilised to maximise the
safety of the dogs.
RACE
CONDITIONS
Coventry greyhound track can boast the widest
bends in the country, measuring up to seven
metres. The racing surface comprises of the
highest quality sand with a depth of 12 inches,
compared to the usual six inches at most other
race tracks. The well-cambered bends further
enhance the track
VETERINARY CARE
Richard Torr, one of the top greyhound
specialist vets in the country, and his
colleagues have been employed
to inspect and care for the greyhounds. Included
on site will be a fully equipped veterinary
centre.
AFTER
RACING
It is our intention to assist the RGT and make
sure that all owners/ trainers make appropriate
provisions for greyhounds in their care at
the end of their racing career.
